LAUGFS Lubricants Ltd recently inaugurated Sri Lanka’s first Tribology Park at the BOI Export Processing Park in Malwatta, Nittambuwa. The facility is designed to serve customers with innovative lubrication solutions and features a state-of-the-art research and development centre focused on tribology solutions customised for Sri Lankan driving conditions.
Advancing Localised Vehicle Efficiency
“With the R&D work carried out by our teams of scientists and technologists at this modern facility, we’ll be able to introduce many innovative products and solutions to specifically cater to the local driving conditions,” said Dr. Gamini Amarasekera, Director and CEO of LAUGFS Lubricants.
He added,
“This localisation will be critical for enhanced efficiency and performance of vehicles, as factors such as fuel quality, ambient temperature, air quality, road, and traffic conditions vary significantly based on geographic conditions.”
Combining Global Technology with Local Expertise
Most modern vehicles and machinery are designed for operating environments in developed markets such as North America, China, Japan, and Europe, which differ significantly from tropical regions like Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. As a result, vehicles may not achieve their designed efficiency in these conditions.

First-of-Its-Kind R&D Centre in Sri Lanka
LAUGFS Lubricants’ Tribology Park is the first and only innovative centre in Sri Lanka dedicated to research and development in the local lubricant industry. The new products developed at this facility aim to benefit local customers while generating multiple advantages for the country’s economy.
